Police will have extra powers during this weekend's Epsom Derby to tackle incidents of anti-social behaviour, crime and disorder. Officers have been given a Section 35 Dispersal Order

which covers all of Epsom, Walton Downs, and Langley Vale. The order is in place from 10am tomorrow (Friday, June 6) to 6am on Sunday, June 8. The Dispersal Order is granted under the

Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 and authorised by an inspector. Epsom and Ewell Police said: "It gives police officers and PCSOs the power to remove individuals from

a specified area where their behaviour is contributing, or likely to contribute, to anti-social behaviour, crime and disorder. This includes behaviour that causes other members of the public

alarm or distress, and a person can be excluded for up to 48 hours." Inspector Tommy Pearson, Borough Commander for Epsom and Ewell, said: “This dispersal order is a helpful tool that

will enable us to tackle anti-social behaviour in the Epsom, Walton Downs, and Langley Vale areas across the two days of the Epsom Derby. The safety of those who live, work, and socialise in

Epsom is our top priority, and officers will be out patrolling the town centre and surrounding areas across the weekend to ensure those attending the Derby enjoy the event, and to keep

disruption through anti-social behaviour to a minimum. If you have any concerns, please speak to one of our officers.” A Public Spaces Protection Order is already in place across the entire

borough of Epsom and Ewell until 2028. This prohibits, among other acts, drinking alcohol in public spaces and wearing clothing which intentionally obscures or hides a person’s identity for

the purposes of committing crime and/or anti-social behaviour. Epsom and Ewell Police said: "We urge members of the public to continue reporting any incidents of anti-social behaviour

to us through private message on social media or on our website https://orlo.uk/9H9ry. In an emergency, always call 999."
