ABOUT Lona Choi-Allum is a senior research advisor in AARP Research. As part of the Advocacy, Community, and Engagement team, she focuses on issues related to fun and fulfillment, including


travel, entertainment, events, social isolation, and loneliness. She also serves as the regional research liaison for Arizona, Georgia, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, North


Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington.  Choi-Allum has over 20 years of research experience in both academic and non-profit settings. She previously served on AARP's financial resilience


team, leading the research on work and jobs. In addition, she has led research on the prevalence of frauds and scams among older adults, support for retirement savings options among workers,


and taxpayer satisfaction for AARP Foundation Tax-Aide.  Before joining AARP’s national office, she managed federal grants under the National Science Foundation and the National Heart,


Lung, and Blood Institute, creating an intergenerational science program for the OASIS senior service organization. She also spent over two years managing a cadre of health volunteers in 16


states in AARP’s Health Advocacy Services in the Atlanta office.  Choi-Allum holds a doctorate and a master’s in gerontology from the University of Massachusetts Boston.   CONTACT  Email:
