OVER £1.2MILLION WAS SPENT ON COUNCILLORS' PAY 09:39, 03 Jun 2025 Taxpayers in Walsall spent over £1.2 million on councillor pay and special responsibility allowances last year. Most


Walsall councillors received a basic pay of £13,455.95 for the year but those with extra responsibility, such as committee chairs or portfolio holders, received special allowances on top.

extra £36,792.48 on top of the basic pay, bringing his total to £50,248.44 during 2024-25. Councillor Perry resigned from the post last month and his replacement will be appointed at an

each received a payment of £1,302.19. The payments cover the period from the end of the financial year in April to the beginning of the municipal year. A Walsall Council spokesperson said:


“Members of Walsall Council receive an annual basic allowance. This includes the costs of telephones, travel, and subsistence in the borough of Walsall. "Recommendations about the level


of members’ allowances are made to council by an Independent Remuneration Panel. Article continues below “There are some councillors with special responsibilities, for example, cabinet
