could benefit from a penalty points shake-up in England with the Labour Party government urged to make a rule change. As it stands, the courts can fine you and ‘endorse’ your driving record

with penalty points if you’re convicted of a motoring offence. A Parliamentary petition urges: " Change speeding penalties to 1 point for up to 25MPH on a 20MPH road." It adds:

" We feel that the current penalty of 3 points for speeding in 20mph areas is disproportionate. "We think the current penalty treats these drivers the same as other drivers who

speed at much higher limits." It says: "In areas like London, drivers can be penalised for doing 24mph in 20mph areas, which we feel is heavily punishing. READ MORE LLOYDS BANK

like the penalties reviewed. Penalties can impact drivers insurance costs and can affect their ability to work." At 10,000 signatures, the government will respond to this petition and

at 100,000 signatures, this petition will be considered for debate in Parliament. The petition was created by Davide Rinaldi with a 20 November 2025 deadline. All petitions run for 6 months.

The endorsement and penalty points are put on your driver record. You can view your driving licence record to see what penalty points you have and when they’ll be removed. Endorsements must

stay on your driving record for 4 or 11 years, depending on the offence. You can be disqualified from driving if you build up 12 or more penalty points within a period of 3 years. There are

offences. The table shows the offence codes that can be put on your driving record. It also shows how many penalty points you can get for them. Some offences may also involve a
