Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) are gaining support. A petition on the Parliamentary website has demanded the Labour Party government ban benefits for asylum seekers.
It says: "This petition is to advocate a cessation of financial and other support provided to asylum seekers by the Government. This support currently includes shelter, food, medical care
(including optical and dental), and cash support.
"I believe that such provisions may inadvertently incentivise illegal migration, particularly via the English Channel. This petition is to urge the Government to discontinue these support
measures and payments."

family while you’re waiting to find out if you’ll be granted refugee status.
"If you are receiving asylum support, this will stop 8 weeks after you are granted refugee status. The Home Office will send you a letter which will confirm the date your support will end,"
the DWP advises on its website.
If you have refugee status you can apply for benefits. A benefit provides financial support if you are unemployed and looking for work, if you are on a low income or if you are bringing up

There may be a gap between your asylum support ending and your first benefit payment. If you do not have enough to live on while you wait for your first payment, you may be able to get an
advance on your first benefit payment.
You can apply for benefits online. Which benefits you apply for will depend on your circumstances. Most people of working age will apply for Universal Credit.
