AT LEAST 10 CARAVANS ARE ON THE SITE 20:03, 07 Feb 2024 Travellers have pitched up in a car park near to a local beauty spot. The group of 10 or more caravans arrived at the Jolly Sailor car

park near to Tamworth Castle Grounds earlier today, Wednesday, February 7, and were pictured there not long after. Cllr Martin Summers, portfolio holder for environmental health and

community partnerships at Tamworth Borough Council, told us: "I'm aware that travellers have arrived at the Jolly Sailor car park. "Often the particular group that have used

this car park have paid for their parking and left the area clean and tidy. Officers and the police will no doubt assess the situation in the morning per usual process and establish their

intentions. READ MORE: Drug dealer jailed after police seize cocaine and heroin from hotel in Tamworth "The eviction notice is served as soon as our officers go down. I've only

seen a picture but there seems to be quite a few." Article continues below Cllr Summers was also asked if he was worried there could be a return once they are moved on. And while he

admitted 'processes have been put in place' he admitted: "I've more to do to be confident. The process we follow to evict and manage is firmly established. "Much of

what happens after the eviction notice is served is in the hands of the court. The police have their own process and judgment calls to make, and they have been using their powers where

appropriate which is encouraging. "The council, at my instruction, are currently investigating using PSPOs and injunctions, since case law on injunctions has been established now, to

manage illegal encampments on public land. Article continues below "We can't predict what the year will hold. I hope the message to groups who do pass through our town has been

clear. There are good groups, there are bad groups. I'm always worried and concerned for the people who have to deal with the bad groups who pitch up next to them and cause problems.

"I know that everyone does their best to manage the situation and I appreciate the patience and understanding of residents."
