ASTON VILLA HAVE BEEN RANKED 19TH ON THE LIST OF CLUBS WITH THE HIGHEST ENTERPRISE VALUE IN EUROPEAN FOOTBALL 13:10, 29 May 2025 While Aston Villa may have had to settle for a spot in the

Europa League next season, the club’s foray in the Champions League over the past year has been impactful. A last day defeat to Manchester United ended hopes of Villa making the Champions

League next season, a competition where they reached the quarter-final stage this season before exiting to finalists Paris Saint-Germain. But the revenues earned through that journey, likely

£85m plus when additional matchday income is also factored into the equation, means that it has been a tremendously lucrative year. That has also had a knock-on effect to how much Villa are

worth, with the 10th annual Football Valuation Report from Budapest-based analysts at Football Benchmark placing the club at 19th on the European list with an enterprise value of £750m.

Enterprise value is essentially the total value of a club’s equity plus its net debt, and Europe’s top 20 clubs have been ranked by Football Benchmark on this basis. How football clubs

should be valued is something that has been the cause of great debate among owners and investors, but enterprise value is a common way of measuring the value of any business. Football

Benchmark’s own methodology, uses a revenue-multiple approach to valuing clubs, with annual operating revenue multiplied by a number that is benchmarked against clubs from the same league

that have recently been bought or are publicly listed. Article continues below There is then Football Benchmark's proprietary algorithm that looks at five parameters, which are

profitability, popularity on social media, sporting potential as defined by squad value, the strength of the league’s TV deals and stadium ownership. Villa were noted as having the largest

increase in enterprise value on this year’s list, a year-on-year increase of 42% (£315m). They were followed by Real Sociedad and Eintracht Frankfurt when it came to growth over the past 12

months. Core to Villa’s plans for future growth is European football, and while they will be out of the Champions League next season they do have the chance to earn strong revenues from the

Europa League, a competition where victory delivers Champions League football the following year and one which boss Unai Emery has already won four times with Sevilla and Villareal, as well

as a final appearance when boss of Arsenal. Founder and CEO of Football Benchmark, Andrea Sartori, commented on the findings of the report, making reference to the fact that while revenues

may be climbing, many clubs remain unprofitable amid heavy loss making. “Profitability remains a key challenge,” he commented. “The aggregate net result of the top 32 clubs is still

negative, largely due to squad costs growing at a faster pace than operating revenues over the past decade (78% vs. 72%).” Premier League clubs to feature in the top 10 of the list included

Manchester City in second (£4.24bn), Manchester United in third (£4.2bn), Liverpool in sixth (£3.5bn), Arsenal in seventh (£3.33bn), ninth-placed Tottenham Hotspur (£3.04bn) and Chelsea in
