Samsung is reportedly planning to add satellite communication to its upcoming Galaxy S23 series. The Korean giant will team with Iridium, a global satellite communications company, for the

technology. Iridium specialise in voice and data communication services in outer space using 66 low-orbit communication satellites. Whereas Apple and Huawei have both added satellite

communication features into their most recent phones, the technology used is far more primitive, according to South Korean publication Etnews. For the iPhone 14, Apple partnered with

satellite company Global Star, but its data processing capacity is limited to emergency rescue requests. iPhone 14 users in various countries, including the US, can use this feature when

reception is bad. This feature is yet to roll out in Australia Huawei’s phones can send and receive text messages using Beidou satellites. Samsung and Iridium are aiming to transmit text

messages and low-capacity images at hundreds of kbps using low earth orbit communication satellite. As expected, Samsung simply said: “We do not disclose information related to product

development in advance.”
