The recovery of an overturned lorry at the North Shields Fish Quay saw one man taken to hospital and hours of disruption on Thursday afternoon. The lorry - a Currie Solutions vehicle - had

fallen onto its side climbing Brewhouse Bank from the Fish Quay proper, near to the popular Low Lights pub. The incident was first reported at around 10.30pm and the recovery took several

hours and involved an extensive response from emergency services. The lorry appeared to have been delivering wood - and logs from its load spilled onto the road and into a nearby garden. The

recovery effort involved the police and fire brigade, while recovery vehicles were involved to hoist the stricken lorry back into an upright position. The road was closed for several hours.

Earlier, the police confirmed they were called at around 10.30am. Then a Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We can confirm that five crews attended a road

traffic collision in North Tyneside this morning [Thursday 29 May]. Our Control Room received the emergency call at 10.28am, and appliances from Hebburn, South Shields, Tynemouth and

Wallsend Community Fire Stations were deployed to the scene on Brewhouse Bank in North Shields. "One of the appliances was a heavy rescue vehicle, as the incident involved an overturned

LGV leaking fuel onto the road. We assisted blue light colleagues to make the scene safe, before leaving shortly after 11.25am." A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said:
