CHRIS RIGG CLAIMS THAT TOGETHERNESS WAS THE KEY TO SUNDERLAND'S UNBELIEVABLE FINISH TO THE SEASON 08:23, 30 May 2025 Sunderland youngster Chris Rigg has opened up on what reaching the
Premier League in such sensational fashion meant to him. With a full career ahead of him, and speculation over his future, 17-year-old sensation Rigg reckoned, Sunderland’s promotion is “a
day I will never forget.” Along with the likes of captain Dan Neil, Rigg was not on the pitch for the dramatic turnaround from 1-0 down. But in a season of so many highs for a young squad
carrying an average age of 24.3 years in the final, Rigg personified the youthful exuberance and fearful approach to games which was laid bare in their Championship play-off final win over
Sheffield United at Wembley. He has amassed more than half a century of first-team appearances and now has a play-off final winners medal to add to his growing list of accolades. It's
little wonder that so many clubs are keeping tabs on the playmaker but for now he is focused on enjoying the celebrations and preparing for a first tilt at the Premier League with the Black
Cats. Article continues below “I am so proud of the boys,” Rigg told safc.com. “Obviously I’m probably one of the youngest as well. Jobe, Dan Neil, they are all still young as well. “Tommy
[Watson] came on and got the winner and he’s only a year older than me. “This team is unbelievable and I will never forget that day.” It was an unforgettable weekend in the capital beginning
with the fans’ takeover of Trafalgar Square the night before the game before ending it with silverware at the home of English football. Rigg continued: “You saw in both legs against
Coventry City that we were together til’ the end. It’s been our slogan but it’s completely true. “Tommy scored at the end of the game and so did Ballard and Eliezer so togetherness was the
key in every one of them games.” A man who has placed huge faith on such young broad shoulders is Régis Le Bris. The Frenchman completed his first year in management in England and
spearheaded the club’s promotion from the Championship with memorable performances and thrilling results throughout the course of the campaign. “You don’t need any words for his impact,”
added Rigg. “He’s taken us from 16th last season to the Premier League this season. There’s no need for words on that, everyone can clearly see it for themselves.” Article continues below
