MANCHESTER UNITED ARE IN POLE POSITION TO SIGN BRYAN MBEUMO IN THE SUMMER TRANSFER WINDOW THOMAS FAIR Community Editor and CHRONICLE LIVE READERS 14:00, 03 Jun 2025Updated 20:28, 03 Jun 2025
Newcastle United's pursuit of Brentford ace Bryan Mbeumo has been dented by his decision to open talks with a struggling Manchester United side - and some fans in the Chronicle Live
comments section are feeling deflated at seeing another top target seemingly slipping away. Cameroon international Mbeumo has been on many Premier League clubs' minds after a 20-goal
season made him one of the most productive forwards of the past year. He has 12 months left on his contract, and Brentford are resigned to letting him leave - though not, as Bees manager
Thomas Frank put it, without getting "a nice, nice amount" in return. Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have both shown interest in the winger, and Newcastle United were eager to
bolster their forward line with him this summer. But as The Athletic reports, it's Manchester United who have convinced him to ask Brentford to open talks for a transfer.
Newcastle's current top earners all sit on around £150,000 per week and include Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton. Manchester United are likely to offer more money, but
Eddie Howe and the Magpies' club hierarchy are said to be relaxed, and confident that they can bring in exciting players without breaking their existing wage structure or paying
exorbitant amounts to improve the squad. Some fans reckon the club have dodged a bullet by not going all-in on Mbeumo. Reader DURBANSKYSLOT says: "You cannot blame Mbuemo for going to a
club who are going to quadruple his wages, with football being a short career. "Man Utd are being held to ransom by players now and look what happened when Newcastle used to do that
back in the day. You end up with a team full of players who don't care about the club which leads to inevitable struggle! Article continues below "As for Newcastle, we will never
attract the star players without giving them top wages unfortunately. We are still not at that level of financial capability so find ourselves still shopping at the mid-level range of
player. Our remit is still signing emerging players who are about to become stars and nurturing them onto greater feats." Commenter MACTOON writes: "To be honest if Mbuemo just
wants to go to a club that can't offer European football, let alone Champions League, just because they offer him 4x his current wage says a lot about the player. I would be very
disappointed if we don't get him but I reckon his priority of money over what we can offer him will say a lot to Eddie Howe about the type of character he is." VESTANPANZ thinks
Mbeumo's got it wrong: "He's opted for a club in crisis, millions in debt, a useless keeper, aging defence, toothless attack, and a manager who has lost the plot with no
European involvement next season. Says a lot about him." Others are worried that it could be a sign of things to come, after a few flat transfer windows in a row. HAPPYANNA says:
"I really hope we’ve extensively scouted over the past year and are going to buy players who can immediately improve our first team. "Yes we need a deeper squad (our substitutes
had zero impact in terms of goals, once Harvey Barnes became a first choice, rather than sub), but we need an improved first team. "We achieved a lot last season because our squad made
us more like lower placed team. We had little selection choice and therefore players improved because of game time e.g. Murphy. But he couldn’t be sold for £50m like Brentford, Wolves, Villa
are able to do." MICKLO writes: "Gutted about this, like. Would have loved to have seen this bloke in a Toon top, he's the type of player we need to be signing to take us to
next level. Can't believe we're going to lose out to a team that finished 15th." PETRUS adds: "We are not ready to compete or pay wages for top players, so, we will have
to accept players in the lower scale of efficiency and develop them, or just see what happens." Article continues below HAVE YOUR SAY! IS MBEUMO MAKING THE WRONG CHOICE? WHERE SHOULD
