for a few weeks later this month, as it shuts its doors to allow for an extensive transformation to take place. And its aesthetic isn't the only thing that will be different when doors
re-open, as its also changing its name.
It was announced on Tuesday that, from Monday, June 16, The Queen's Head will close for a three-week refurbishment ahead of its grand transformation into The Smugglers at The Queen’s Head,
which is set to launch in early July, just in time to welcome both residents and tourists for a summer to remember.Drawing inspiration from Thomas Armstrong – the legendary Smuggler King of
Cullercoats, the venue’s new identity promises a truly immersive experience.
Inside, drinkers can expect theatrical décor filled with curiosities, hidden details, and dramatic nods to Cullercoats’ smuggling past, creating a captivating atmosphere unlike anything
else on the coast. Giving more detail on the revamp, the firm behind it have revealed that, alongside it bold new look, The Smugglers will offer 'a carefully curated menu' of drinks and a
unique selection of seafood, all sourced from local North East suppliers. The team are working closely with trusted partners to celebrate the region’s coastal bounty, to deliver a food and
drink offering that’s fresh, local, and full of character.
The six-figure refurbishment, including external painting and internal works, will set the stage for what is being promised as a 'venue full of character' and ready to welcome both locals
and tourists all summer long. Beyond the transformation itself, The Smugglers are also main sponsor of this year’s Cullercoats Festival.

with a playful, theatrical twist – combining local history, warm hospitality, and some truly exciting food and drink."
