DIVERS AND FIREFIGHTERS WERE UNABLE TO RESCUE 23-YEAR OLD An American student studying in France drowned after falling into Le Havre’s port earlier this week. The 23-year old man, a student
at the EM Normandie Business School, fell into the port near the Vauban basin, opposite one of the school’s buildings. He fell into the water at around 23:40 after walking along the quay by
himself. He was then unable to get out of the water. Emergency services were called to the scene – including divers – attempted to rescue the student. However, he had suffered a cardiac
arrest and was pronounced dead at 00:40. It is not known whether the student had been drinking or why he was walking along the quayside alone so late at night. An inquiry into the death
will be opened by the local public prosecutor. The US ambassador in France was informed of the student’s death. The Vauban basin is usually used to moor pleasure craft and other small
