EUROPE SURVEY SAYS BROADBAND SUPPLIERS IN FRANCE AND UK ARE LEAST RELIABLE ON SPEED PROMISES – BUT HAVE FAST NETWORKS FRENCH internet suppliers are failing to live up to their promises on
their broadband speeds, with a survey placing them last in a survey of 30 European countries. The European Commission survey said that the ADSL speeds offered at peak times – between 19.00
and 23.00 – were just 40.4% of what French ISPs were promising. The UK was just ahead of France in the list – on 44.7% - but both countries were way behind Slovakia on 97.1% and Croatia on
94.8% reliability. Cable broadband speeds were broadly in line with ISPs’ promises. However, although ISPs did not keep to their advertised broadband speeds, France still has overall good
network speeds. Averaging 7.13Mb, this is one of the fastest speeds available in the EU – the UK was on 6.92Mb - while Slovakia and Croatia fill the bottom spots at just 2.99Mb and 4.46Mb.
