along Bordeaux’s riverfront yesterday evening (April 10).  The assailant stabbed a 37-year old man at the Miroir d’Eau fountain installation between the Garonne river and Bordeaux’s Bourse

just after 20:00. He then continued along the riverfront and stabbed a 26-year old man in the thigh and side.  Both attacks happened in plain view of a number of witnesses, including people

in bars watching a football match on television. The attacker tried to cross the river over the Pont de Pierre, when he was shot dead by an armed police officer on patrol in the area. The

first man died of his wounds at the scene, whilst the 26-year old was rushed to hospital. His injuries are said to not be life threatening, and he is in a stable condition.  Read more:

ALCOHOL An inquest into the incident has been opened by the Gironde prefecture. “The terrorist motive… seems to have been completely ruled out,” said an anonymous police officer close to

the case to AFP.  “It seems that the starting point was a dispute linked to the alcohol consumption of the two victims of the stabbing,” he added.  Both victims are said to be Algerian

nationals, or of Algerian descent. The identity of the attacker has not yet been identified.
