A QUARTER OF LIFTS DO NOT MEET SAFETY STANDARDS A QUARTER of lifts do not meet safety standards, according to the Fédération des Ascenseurs (Lift Federation). The lifts must be properly
equipped by 2011, the date set by law in 2003. Owners have until then to rectify the most serious flaws (like ensuring doors into shafts cannot be opened when the lift is absent). Fines will
be issued for non-compliance.
