TWO SECTIONS OF MOTORWAY IN THE PARIS AREA WILL BE LOWERED IN A BID TO REDUCE NOISE POLLUTION Speed limits on more roads in the Paris area are set to be lowered from this November onwards,
after the limit on the périphérique was lowered from 70 km/h to 50 km/h. The mairie has hailed the lowering of the speed limit on the périphérique as a success, and has published a report

are: The order comes from the prefectures of Seine-Saint-Denis and Val-de-Marne. They are mainly aiming to reduce what they see as high levels of noise pollution. For example, the order
issued by the Val-de-Marne prefecture refers to “higher noise levels than the regulatory threshold on the section crossing the municipalities of Charenton-le-Pont and Saint-Maurice”. Levels
exceed the threshold of 65 dB(A) during the day and 60 dB(A) at night, the prefecture said, affecting the health and lives of more than 14,000 people in the area.
