ACCIDENTS INCREASED IN MOST DEPARTMENTS COMPARED TO 2023 The majority of departments saw the number of fatalities from road accidents increase in 2024 compared to 2023, new figures show.

Some however have seen the number of accidents drop slightly, or in the case of Lozère, drop from 11 to three (a 72% decrease).  Full figures from the French road safety authorities

(Sécurité routière) are yet to be released, however most departments have given provisional figures.  Those yet to release these figures are not included in the map below. Accident numbers

are naturally higher in departments with major cities. The Bouches-du-Rhône and Gironde departments – where Marseille and Bordeaux respectively are located – have the highest figures on the

map (data for central Paris has not yet been released). Figures in the Alpes-Maritimes (Nice) are almost identical to 2023.  A road safety campaign the department launched last summer after
