A Coventry pub just outside the city centre will reopen its doors once more after years of being closed. The Old Dyers Arm, Spon End, will serve customers again from this Friday (23 May).
The news will be welcome from local drinkers, particularly in light of the closure of nearby boozers in recent years, with the Black Horse and the Hamptons closing - the former was
demolished several years ago, the latter looks set to face the same fate. The Aardvark has also closed recently, and is currently boarded up. A new Facebook page for the venture was set up
last week. An early post tells followers the pub is "fully refurbished" and "under new management". We've approached management for further information. READ MORE:
WARNINGS ISSUED AFTER 'RECKLESS' SURFERS SPOTTED RIDING ON TOP OF COVENTRY BUS A later post, which shows images of inside and outside the boozer set to the iconic Specials track
Ghost Town, is captioned: "Here’s some snaps of the pub before, since these photos were taken there has been loads of work done and the pub is nearly ready to be opened again to the
public. "We are thrilled to be reviving this traditional pub back to life, in the heart of Coventry." The most recent post tells followers the pub will reopen at 5pm on Friday.
CoventryLive reported last month that changes were afoot with scaffolding up around the building. The pub dates back to at least the early part of the 1800s, according to The Definitive
Guide to the History of Pubs and Beerhouses in Coventry on the Historic Coventry website. Its page reads: "This name comes from the days when dyeing was carried out on the banks of the
River Sherbourne some centuries ago. The pub is thought to be at least two hundred years old. In 1979 it was 'an unpretentious working man's local'. Live folk music was
performed in the back room in 1982."
