In recent years, the brunch scene in Coventry has elevated as an option to enjoy fresh and wholesome food within modern and aesthetic surroundings. It has become a popular alternative way to
spend quality time with friends and family, work colleagues, or for a daytime date. Well-known Coventry brunch spot Cafe Locco on Daventry Road in Cheylesmore has recently unveiled a new
menu offering the best of fusion flavours. The cafe opened in July 2023 and has gained a large social media following since. The cafe serves all-day breakfasts and brunch items, burgers and
wraps, mocktails, snack bowls, desserts, and more in an opulent setting. The new menu includes unique brunch plates, freshly squeezed juices in-house, and contemporary desserts. READ MORE:
THE BRUNCH RESTAURANT IN COVENTRY AIMING TO 'STAND OUT' IN THE CITY Cafe Locco owner Mohsin Hanif says changing the menu wasn't just a 'refresh' but a response to
growth and feedback from customers and his own desires to 'push boundaries'. Mohsin says he finds inspiration 'everywhere', from street food markets across the world to
family recipes and flavours he grew up with. "I'm drawn to bold, unexpected combinations, things that make you pause after the first bite and go 'wait... what is that?'.
We're always experimenting, but everything starts with passion and purpose," he said. The new menu is a lot bigger than when I visited previously, with the popular classics still
available, from the Philly cheesecake to the well-known desi breakfast. I tried various dishes from the new menu to see how Cafe Locco has evolved since 2023. The new menu items include
Truffle bagel, The Taste of Asia, Locco Filet-O-Fish, Veggie Samosa Chaat, Sunset Spritz Mocktail, white chocolate leche cake, Locco Tilda Cake, Burrata Bruschetta, and more. I let Mohsin
decide what dishes I should try, and weirdly enough, I tried the desserts first before actually having my brunch dish, but I was just going with the flow, and since I have a sweet tooth and
love desserts, I didn't mind changing it up. The two desserts I tried were the White Chocolate Leche Cake, priced at £12.00, and the Locco Tilda Cake, based on the viral Dubai Matilda
cake, also £12.00. The white chocolate leche cake. Wow. It melted so effortlessly in my mouth, almost like popping candy. It was presented elegantly in a love heart shape with one part white
and the other part fluorescent pink, alongside a pink, rosy sauce. The sponge was fluffy, light, and super moist, hence the melted feeling in the mouth. Even closing my eyes now, I can
imagine the delightful sweetness of the milk blend and the tangy pink rose combined. The cake wasn't heavy, and I'd say this dish is perfect for those who are not major dessert
fans (but I think this cake will make them gain a sweet tooth, haha). Next on the dessert wagon was the Locco Tilda cake, a take on the viral Matilda cake inspired by the scene in Roald
Dahl's film 'Matilda' where one of the characters eats a huge chocolate cake. It has become a viral food item on TikTok, a layered chocolate sponge with chocolate ganache and
chocolate flakes. My first impression upon seeing the cake was, 'This is huge,' and I wondered how I would manage to eat it. The cake has many layers, and I didn't want to
ruin its structure by sticking my spoon into it and ruining its aesthetic, but there was no other way. I split it down the middle, and I felt like the Matilda character; it was chocolate
heaven, rich and luscious with the multiple chocolate layers. It was overflowing with chocolate goodness. The chocolate sauce was gooey and made my tummy feel wholesome and heartfelt. I am a
major fan of chocolate, and I enjoyed the thick and fudgy sponge with the glossiness of the ganache that mirrored the movie cake. My brunch dish for the day was Velvet Beetroot & Feta
on sourdough bread, lined with beetroot hummus, falafel, and feta cheese, which costs £13.99. I had never heard of beetroot hummus, and it was vividly pink, which stood out on the plate and
looked enticing to eat. I'm also a sucker for falafel which had a wonderful crispy texture and crunch, with a subtle kick of spices. The savoury and herby taste was present, with a
tender interior of chickpea goodness. The fusion flavours were met well with the dish, with items I didn't even think worked together, but it definitely did. The crumbly feta cheese
added intense flavour depth, with the tanginess of the beetroot making the dish excel. I enjoyed my brunch dish and would eat it again. I had the White Whisper mocktail, which costs £10.00,
and when I took the first sip, I knew straight away that I loved it. I knew instantly that there was lychee in there, which gave the drink a good amount of sweetness and a nice refreshing
edge. It complemented my brunch dish well and is also a perfect summer drink for a warm day. I can see why many people visit Cafe Locco, as it offers a premium brunch experience which you
don't usually see in Coventry. Since reporting on its opening, I have seen the cafe elevate to a new level with innovative dishes each time I visit. The places get packed out, and I
have seen customers even waiting outside with queues, especially on weekends, which shows that the food, service and quality have been maintained at a high standard. Café Locco is open from
9am to 5pm on Mondays, 9am to 7pm Tuesdays to Thursdays, 9am to 8pm Fridays and Saturdays and 9am to 7pm on Sunday. For more information, you can follow Café Locco on their Facebook page,
