has not been confirmed by police — leapt into the water on Sunday in Ingoldmells, near Skegness, Lincolnshire, to help the children, who appeared to be in distress. Lincolnshire Police said


he got into difficulty in the water and tragically died at the scene. The force did not provide an update on the condition of the two children. A spokesman said the man entered the water at


around 4pm on Sunday, May 25. The air ambulance, coastguard and RNLI were deployed to the scene, but he could not be saved. The force said in a brief statement: "A 60-year-old man has


sadly died after entering the water to help two children who appeared to be in distress. Article continues below "The man reportedly entered the sea just after 4pm today (25 May) close


to the Promenade in Ingoldmells, he got into difficulty and sadly died at the scene. Our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones at this very sad time." Social media users


praised the man's selfless actions, with one saying: "If there's a bar in heaven where i can send money... let me buy this man his drink for his night!! Some hero right


there!" Another said: "What an heroic thing he did! Gave his life to save the children. RIP thoughts are will all his family. God bless." A third wrote: "Deepest


sympathies with the gentleman's loved ones. How very tragic for all involved. Such a heroic and selfless act to end in such a tragic and heart-breaking way. "Absolutely so sad to


think all involved were just trying to enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend and now be left traumatised and a family grieving and heartbroken over losing their brave, beloved family member."


A post from a man claiming to be his brother said the hero was on holiday with his wife at the time of the tragedy. He went on: "We received the heart-breaking news that he drowned


while trying to save some children. Article continues below "He showed immense courage and selflessness in his final moments — something we will never forget. Please keep him in your
