YOUTUBERS VISITING THE 'BEAUTIFUL' CORNISH BEACH AWARDED A 'BROWN FLAG' FOR ITS RANK WATER HAVE SAID THAT THE SEASIDE HAUNT ISN'T AS BAD AS IT SOUNDS, IN A SHOCKING

REVEAL 18:25, 17 May 2025 A Cornish beauty spot has been slapped with the title of the UK's filthiest beach, despite being nestled in one of Blighty's spick-and-span counties.

Porthluney Beach in Cornwall has been handed a "Brown Flag" by UK travel site Holiday Park Guru, thanks to some less-than-stellar water quality stats from the Environment Agency.

The dubious honour, complete with a poo emoji badge of shame, is based on the worst-performing beaches in England for swimming, due to bacteria such as E. coli from sewage and waste. YouTube

wanderers Cornish Walking Tours, took their cameras down to "Port Poo" to see if it really was as mucky as its rep. They scoped out some dodgy-looking dark spots along the

shoreline, with the presenter pondering: "What do you think that is? I'm hoping it's mud." But, plot twist – they reckon the beach isn't living up to its grubby

gong. "Do you know what? You wouldn't have any idea would you? This is actually beautiful," reports the Express. "It's actually in an area of an outstanding natural

beauty." Privately owned, the sun-trap cove has long been a hit with the Brit holiday crowd. On Trip Advisor, it's not all doom and gloom, with 43 five star reviews and 44 punters

giving it a thumbs down. However, most of these reviews are bemoaning the car park rather than cleanliness. One beach-goer wrote: "We popped to the beach for a brief spell. It's a

beach we've been to many times. It's a beautiful beach but the state of the carpark is terrible. Kind of fearful now of getting a parking ticket. Fingers crossed we

don't." Another reviewer raved: "I have visited this beach twice: once when the tide was right out and again when it was in. It is what beaches should all be about - with

little rock pools and beautiful sand. Plus, very much a bonus, there's a lovely cafe selling delicious food nearby." Despite the brown flag warning, the beach is nestled in a

county that otherwise prides itself on top-notch water quality. Environment Agency stats reveal a whopping 81% of Cornwall's beaches have been slapped with an 'excellent'

rating for their bathing water, placing the county as England's fourth cleanest hotspot for a summer dip. Yet, the brown flag raises a red flag over Porthluney's particular water

conditions, given Cornwall's rep as a go-to destination for those after pristine seas and golden sands. Holiday Park Guru said: "Some of the worst water cleanliness readings were

found at beaches at popular resorts including Blackpool, Weston Super Mare, and Bognor Regis. Article continues below "This doesn't necessarily mean the whole beach is

'poor' for bathing - it is sometimes just one section of beach. "The water quality readings are based on readings taken in the warmer months (i.e. May 15th to September 30th).

The sea is less likely to be clean in winter, as it rains more which leads to more unpleasant stuff overflowing into rivers and into the sea." _FOR THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS AND STORIES
