DAVID JASON HAS OPENED UP ABOUT HIS FRIENDSHIP WITH NICHOLAS LYNDHURST, HAVING ADDRESSED RUMOURS THAT THE PAIR FELL OUT ON SET 14:52, 30 May 2025 David Jason has spoken of his true feelings
for Only Fools and Horses co-star Nicholas Lyndhurst. The pair portrayed on-screen half-brothers Derek 'Del Boy' and Rodney Trotter in the iconic series that spanned from 1981 to
2003. During a candid chat on Gyles Brandreth's Rosebud podcast, veteran actor David touched upon his former co-star, following an observation that he hadn't mentioned Nicholas
while talking about his illustrious career. Gyles relayed a compliment from Frasier star Kelsey Grammer, who hailed Nicholas as "one of the most wonderful English actors he's ever
worked with". To this, David warmly responded: "Oh that's lovely, he was." He went on to reminisce: "We had a tremendous double act together, we were sort of like a
modern version of [Stan] Laurel and [Oliver] Hardy and I loved those two in particular. Article continues below "The [inspiration] for me was always Laurel and Hardy, and it was a
knowing fool and an unknowing fool, was the way I'd describe Laurel and Hardy. "Stan Laurel was the unknowing fool and Hardy was the knowing fool, so when you put those two
together, they just create such wonderful magic, but they're both fools." In the same conversation, the 85-year-old said he was "disappointed" that his role as Del Boy
had eclipsed his other acting work. Reflecting on his career post-Only Fools and Horses, he shared: "After Only Fools and Horses, I wanted to play a character that was distant from
Derek Trotter, because I didn't want to spend my life playing characters that were like that all the time. "So, I wanted to play this character in a bit of a do, which was an
ensemble piece with all of the characters that were in the show, all having their moments together." David recently set the record straight, following the clarification of rumours
surrounding him and co-star Nicholas having "a huge row". In David's book My Life, he acknowledged hearing reports about them having "a feud", believing these
stemmed from an anecdote he once relayed. He recounted that he and Nicholas staged an argument as a joke during the filming, leaving everyone shocked – a jest which has been misconstrued by
some. Hoping to clear the air he explained: "With Nick, I feel slightly to blame for some of this fake 'feud' news, because what's often used as supporting evidence in
these stories is a tale I told in an earlier volume of these memoirs, about Nick and me having an enormous fight during a location shoot for Only Fools. Article continues below "It was
a play fight, a wind-up, a practical joke we played on the rest of the cast and crew." As of 2022, David admitted that he and Nicholas "don't see each other as much" like
they did back in the day. Understandably, Nicholas has maintained a discreet presence since the tragic loss of his 20 year old son Archie in 2020, who passed away from a brain haemorrhage
triggered by leukaemia. "He's much more, how can I say, self-contained, perhaps, than he used to be," he shared with The Mirror. "So, unfortunately, we don't see
each other as much as I would like to. But that's how things work out sometimes."
