EMMERDALE VIEWERS WERE LEFT STUNNED AS ROBERT SUGDEN, PLAYED BY RYAN HAWLEY, MADE A DRAMATIC RETURN TO THE SOAP AFTER SIX YEARS, WITH THE STAR NOW SPEAKING OUT ON HIS EXPLOSIVE COMEBACK

08:16, 29 May 2025 Emmerdale enthusiasts were over the moon on Wednesday evening as Robert Sugden made a thunderous comeback after six long years. Loyal followers will remember that Robert,

brought to life by Ryan Hawley, bid farewell to the ITV series in 2019 when he was sent down for the accidental killing of Lee Posner. This happened after Robert lashed out at Lee who had

brutally assaulted his sister Victoria Sugden. Accepting his misdeeds, Robert severed all ties with his village roots as well as his family as he faced imprisonment. But fans have been

keeping their fingers crossed for his return, especially with suspicions that maybe Robert wasn't actually responsible for the fatal incident. Lee sustained serious head injuries from

Robert's punch; however, it was later revealed that Lee also took a hit from his brother Luke, which could have contributed to his demise. The latest episode saw Robert making a

bombshell entrance right during his former hubby Aaron Dingle’s wedding to John Sugden, Robert's newly-uncovered half-brother. In an electrifying moment, just as Aaron and John stood

poised to exchange vows, Robert stormed in, declaring: "Hello Aaron, miss me?" leaving viewers hanging off a tantalising cliffhanger. Article continues below Ryan, aged 39,

portraying the explosive return of Robert, has opened up about his dramatic re-entry and confirmed his extended stay in the ITV drama, reports Leicestershire Live. Ryan disclosed:

"Robert's back after six years! And a lot has happened during this time in the village and for Robert. Two very different worlds, the village and Robert's reality in prison.

And out of the blue, just in the nick of time, Robert turns up at Aaron's wedding to John. "It sets up a fantastic few episodes to finish off the wedding week which shows how the

incident of Robert turning up will resolve itself. It's a massive dilemma for Aaron, who's found John as a new love in his life and then he's got Robert, who used to be the

love of his life, turn up! He's got a massive decision to make. "I guess all the weight is on Aaron's shoulders. What's Robert doing there, has he got ulterior motives,

does he know something about John? How has he even found out that this wedding was taking place?". "There's alot to unpick and so much to be revealed over the next few nights.

It's a great few episodes and I'm really excited to see them." Discussing his soap future and whether Robert is back for good, he hinted: "Well Ryan is back, but Robert

is still technically in prison so we shall have to wait and see how that works out!" Reflecting on his return after six years, he expressed: "Rejoining the cast of Emmerdale feels

fantastic. I've been having so much fun being back here. Oddly, more fun than I thought it was going to be, in a good way. Article continues below "We've been filming some

great stuff, there's a lot more to Robert's return than just the value of opening the door. I've been having so much fun, everyone's been lovely, and there are a lot of

familiar faces and loads of really positive energy about the place. "There's lots of drama, lots of conflict. There's the dilemma for Aaron and John and also his return

affects so many other people in the village." WANT ALL THE BIGGEST SHOWBIZ AND TV NEWS STRAIGHT TO YOUR INBOX? SIGN UP FOR OUR FREE DAILY STAR SHOWBIZ NEWSLETTER.
