DAYS TO KILL _and _POMPEII_. In their second weekend out, _ABOUT LAST NIGHT_ and _ROBOCOP_ got nudges upwards and _ENDLESS LOVE_ faltered from previous estimates but _WINTERS TALE_ was done

before it began. _THE WIND RISES_ ended up with a very strong $14,941 per screen this weekend in limited release for Disney. The animated picture from writer/director Hayao Miyazaki was only

on 21 screens as the studio is releasing slowly and is expected on 500 screens this weekend. Other openers on Oscar weekend will be 20th Century Fox’s _SON OF GOD, _reality TV king’s Mark

Burnett’s theatrical version (clipped together with footage from _The Bible_ series on the History Channel and new footage). Burnett is smartly and heavily promoting through Christian

groups. In fact, he is working with a company called Compassion International which is buying up tickets and giving away parishoners to churches in 40 U.S. cities. Will be interesting to see

how this film is received in light of two other Bible-themed films coming out this year including the Russell Crowe-starring _Noah_ epic from Paramount next month and the Christian

Bale-starring _Exodus_ also from Fox around the Christmas holiday. Also bowing this coming weekend is Universal’s _NON-STOP_ with Liam Neeson in an action thriller set on a plane. Also

_ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES_ from Paramount is being re-launched into theaters (for one week) in the U.S. and the U.K. under an R-rating touting over 700 new jokes in a marketing move

to squeeze more out of the box office. The Will Ferrell-starring comedy has grossed$169.2M worldwide ($125.1M came domestically). Sony is also releasing in 300 locations, the Russian hit

_Stalingrad_ in 3-D  IMAX. Here is this weekend final chart: 1). _THE LEGO MOVIE_ (WB), 3,890 theaters (+115) / 3-day cume: $31.3M (-37%) / Per screen average: $8,048 / Total cume: $183M /

_WINTER’S TALE_ (WB) 2,965 theaters (0) / 3-day cume: $2.1M (-70%) / Per screen: $733 / Total cume: $11.2M / Wk 2 UPDATED, SUNDAY 10:10 AM: Lionsgate’s _THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE_ has

grossed $423.6M to date, now stepping into the Top Ten highest-grossing film of all time domestically, it was announced by Lionsgate. The film just flew past Jack Sparrow as _Pirates of the

Carribean: Dead Man’s Chest_ was the previous record holder with $423.3M to take the tenth spot. The total worldwide cume on the _Catching Fire_ is now $863M after this weekend, which is 25%

higher than the first _HUNGER GAMES_. This is the first time that the first two installments of a franchise have grossed over $400M. PREVIOUS, SUNDAY 8:25 AM: All pictures played out pretty

much as expected as the dust cleared this morning with Warner Bros.’ _THE LEGO MOVIE _continuing to hold onto audiences to take in far and above any other offering with a $31.4M estimated

gross. Accounting for its continued success is that the picture has crossed demos and is playing to older kids as well as to the family audience. The family films, across the board whether

in the top ten or not, as always get huge boosts on Saturday with_ Lego_ up 99%, Disney’s _FROZEN_ up 100% and Open Road Films’ _THE NUT JOB_ up 131% (No. 16 on the chart, but by far the

highest jump of any other title in the Top 20; its est. gross now is almost $60M). Of the two newcomers, Relativity/EuropaCorp’s international spy thriller, _3 DAYS TO KILL__‘S (_with a

budget the company says is $28M plus marketing and distribution costs) opened better than _POMPEII_, (which is said to have been a $100M picture) which was financed by Constantin with

marketing and distribution costs from FilmDistrict film. The love story set against the backdrop of an erupting Vesuvius was released by Sony and is only expected to gross only $10M and

change. The opening of _3 days to Kill _comes only two days after Deadline broke news of an $130M, six-year distribution deal between EuropaCorp. and Relativity. It looks like this one will

make a profit. Sunday morning estimates for the $100M+ budgeted _ROBOCOP_ are slightly up from a day earlier as its clear the weekend was dominated by testosterone. The second weekend for

all the romancers — _ABOUT LAST NIGHT_, _ENDLESS LOVE_ and _WINTER’S TALE_ — all sank by roughly 70%. That’s rough. _FROZEN_ and _RIDE ALONG_ (in its ninth week) swapped positions. _RIDE

ALONG_ is now at $123.1M. ___WINTER’S TALE_ edged out _LONE SURVIVOR_ to round out the Top Ten this morning, doing negligibly better on Saturday night. Meanwhile, _ROBOCOP_ is traveling well

overseas but the question is will the re-envisioned remake break even? Remember they also have to recoup marketing and distribution costs both domestically and internationally and it’s

currently at $43.8M here (of which exhibitors get roughly half). With over $17.7M internationally from this weekend, worldwide right now (updated this morning) is about $143.8M (budget is

about $106M). Still to open in the big market of China, but that’s a lot of dough to recoup. So don’t know how MGM isn’t going to lose its shirt on this one. Hope it breaks even. Word is it

may do $240M to $250M. Disney is seeing this animated wonder in the top ten now for 14 weeks in a row as it is in the No. 8 spot and has grossed around $384M domestically. _FROZEN_ is at

$980M right now worldwide on its way to $1B. Will it make it? Disney’s marketing machine wants it bad and even created the sing-a-long version which gave it a nice financial bump

domestically. Internationally, it just added another $9M. So a total increase of $13.7M altogether this weekend and one last market set to open — Japan — so it’s likely, yes. Disney’s other

offering, _THE WIND RISES_, in limited release on only 21 screens had a very strong average of $14,064 as it clearly captured writer/director Hayao Miyazaki’s fans. The animated film, which

garnered an A- CinemaScore, will expand next weekend. Here are the estimates for the 3-day weekend as they look this morning: 1). _THE LEGO MOVIE_ (WB), 3,890 theaters (+115) / $7.3M Fri.

(-43%) / $14.6M Sat. (+99%) / $9.4M  (-35%) / Est. 3-day cume: $31.4M (-37%) / Total cume: $183.1M / Wk 3 2). _3 DAYS TO KILL__ _(REL), 2,872 theaters / $4M Fri. / $5.1M (+28%) / $3.1M

(WB) 2,965 theaters (0) / $670K Fri. (-82%) / $970K Sat. (+44%) / $533K Sun. (-45%) / 3-day cume: $2.1M (-71%) / Total cume: $11.2M / Wk 2 PREVIOUS, SATURDAY 7:17 AM: Warner Bros.’ _THE LEGO

MOVIE_ and Disney’s _FROZEN_ had the best holds on Friday night from weekend to weekend, with _The Lego Movie_ on track for a $31M to $33M weekend as estimates are now show a $7.3M Friday

night for the picture whose cume could reach $184M+ by the end of the 3-day weekend. _Frozen_ could reach $385M. As expected, _3 DAYS TO KILL_ trumped _POMPEII_ and will end the weekend in

the two-spot with approximately $12M, perhaps $2M ahead. Not good news for Pompeii but it was 100% financed by Constantin with FilmDistrict providing the marketing and distribution funds.

The male demo for movie going is stronger this weekend for a reason: In their second weekend, _ABOUT LAST NIGHT_, _ENDLESS LOVE_ and _WINTER’S TALE_ dropped significantly in its Friday to

Friday night percentage declines — all were over 80% down in a Valentine’s Day deflation. Valentine’s Day was last Friday and was a huge date night as it was the first time the holiday fell

on a Friday since 2003 and first time it fell on a weekend since 2009. _Winter’s Tale_ might even be iced out of the Top Ten as it competes with _Lone Survivor_ to take the last spot of the

chart. Bets are on Lone Survivor, which will cume a total of $121M+ by Sunday. NOTEWORTHY: The Oscar nominated movies still in theaters are holding strong. Traditionally, the weekend before

the Oscars, movie goers try to cram in all they haven’t seen prior to the big show. ALSO, _THE WIND RISES_, the animated love story from writer/director Hayao Miyazaki, is in limited release

via Disney and is tracking to take in $279K on 21 screens this weekend for a strong per screen average of $13,350K. Here are the updated numbers as of Saturday morning. Estimates will be

revised upwards and downwards after the big Saturday movie night: RELATED: HOW OSCAR NOMINATED BEST PICTURES ARE FARING AT THE BOX OFFICE PREVIOUS, FRIDAY 11:07 P.M.: Warner Bros.’ _THE LEGO

MOVIE_, as expected, lorded over the box office weekend for a three-peat with an estimated $7M to $9M Friday night while the race for No. 2 was settled as older male audiences lifted the

Kevin Costner-starring _3 DAYS TO KILL_ to the No. 2 spot for an estimated $4M and change for Relativity. Maybe it’s just the name, but _POMPEII_ was buried again to open in third place in

its debut weekend for an estimated Friday night take of $3.3M for Sony. Both films received B CinemaScores. Sony also takes the fourth, fifth and sixth spot as it stands now with _ROBOCOP_

(MGM), _MONUMENTS MEN_ and _ABOUT LAST NIGHT_, respectively. Numbers and positions may change in the AM.
