UPDATE, WRITETHRU: The Official Selection for the 69th Cannes Film Festival was unveiled this morning at Paris’ UGC Normandie cinema on the Champs-Elysées (where a mini-protest against
reforms to national labor laws kicked off the proceedings). Chief Thierry Frémaux revealed his picks for next month’s event alongside President Pierre Lescure, in his sophomore outing with
the fest, after a long run of speculation in what is potentially a jam-packed year. One big change this year is that there will be no Closing Night film. Rather, the winner of the Palme d’Or
will be shown in the final slot. As expected, in the Out of Competition lineup are Steven Spielberg with _The BFG_, Jodie Foster’s _Money Monster_ and Shane Black’s _The Nice Guys_. In
competition, Jeff Nichols’ _Loving_, Nicolas Winding Refn’s _The Neon Demon_, Pedro Almodóvar’s _Julieta_ and Sean Penn’s _The Last Face_ are all in as are Paul Verhoeven, the Dardenne
brothers, Xavier Dolan, Andrea Arnold and Olivier Assayas. Woody Allen’s _Café Society_ opens the fest on May 11. Analysis coming; in the meantime, check out the full list below: OPENING
