Saturday Night Live made the programing change last-minute, announcing on Friday afternoon that the scheduled rerun episode on Saturday would be replaced by a “Goodnight Sweet Prince”

tribute episode to the legendary musician who died Thursday at age 57.

The remembrance scored big ratings, stronger than any SNL encore and many of the show’s original episodes this season. “Goodnight Sweet Prince,” featuring Prince performances and skits

through the years, drew a 4.5 rating in the metered-markets households and a 2.1 rating in adults 18-49 in the markets with Local People Meters. That was way up from last week’s original

(3.9 in HH, 1.9 in 18-49) and the program’s highest metered-market household rating since February 6 (5.1 with host Larry David and musical guest The 1975) and highest 18-49 rating in the

local people meters since February 13 (2.3 with host Melissa McCarthy and musical guest Kanye West).
