1993 blast convict dies in pune prison, kin cry foul

Mohammad Farooq Pawle, 47, one of the convicts in the 1993 serial blasts, died in Pune’s Yerawada jail on Wednesday. Pawle was the main bomb planter in the blasts, according to the
prosecution. The convict’s relatives accused prison authorities of negligence. A Tada court, in 2007, had held Pawle guilty on five counts, including conspiracy and terrorist acts. The court
awarded him capital punishment. However, an apex court, in March 2013, awarded him life imprisonment. When dna spoke to advocate Farhana Shah, the counsel for the convict, she claimed she
had written to the authorities, requesting for appropriate medication for Pawle. According to the letter, the convict’s wife, Shabnam, received a message from the Mahim police on August 24,
informing her that her husband has been hospitalised. Pawle is survived by his wife and five sons.
