They have been booked for suspected criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery of documents for cheating, forged documents used as genuine, and criminal misconduct Central Bureau of
Investigation (CBI) has recently registered an offence against the proprietor of a private company, an insurance surveyor and unknown officials of the New India Assurance Company Limited
(NIACL) for allegedly causing loss of over Rs 1.11 crore to the insurance company by wrongfully obtaining a claim from the company. According to CBI, those named in the FIR are Proprietor of
M/s Pravin & Co, Pravin Dagha, Director of M/s Alok Shankar Insurance Surveyors & Loss Assessors Pvt Ltd and unknown officials of NIACL. They have been booked for suspected criminal
conspiracy, cheating, forgery of documents for cheating, forged documents used as genuine, and criminal misconduct. CBI had received a written complaint from K Muralikrishna, Regional
Manager, Centralised Claims Hub of the NIACL, Mumbai, alleging that Dagha and Shankar, in connivance with unknown NIACL officials had deliberately produced, manipulated and tampered
documents such as Panchnama and Incident Report prepared by Talati (executive head of village Panchayat), Fire Brigade report etc., to obtain a false claim of Rs 1.11 crore from NIACL
against a fire floater policy. "Dagha had insured a godown of his in Thane District. It is alleged in the FIR that Dagha had asked NIACL for the claims after a fire occurred there in
2013. The spot inspection was done by Surveyor and NIACL officials and related documents and reports were submitted to the NIACL to honour the claim made by Dagha. However, later, NIACL
learnt that the fire had instead occurred at a different location which was neither owned by Dagha, nor insured by its original proprietor. Forged documents were prepared to get the claim
approved. The officials of NIACL Mumbai, including the surveyor had allowed the said fraudulent insurance claim by abusing their official position which caused wrongful loss to NIACL and
wrongful gain to Dagha," said a CBI official, who did not wish to be named.
