Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to extend the deadline for accepting suggestions/objections from residents regarding the Existing Land Use (ELU) survey by two weeks. The
decision was made responding to demands were made by residents’ associations and NGOs during a special meeting convened by standing committee chairman Rahul Shewale. The corporation had
earlier decided to entertain residents’ suggestions/objections in connection with the survey – carried out in the run-up to revising the city’s development plan (DP) for 2014 and 2034 – till
January 24. Chief engineer (DP) Rajiv Kuknur confirmed the extension and said, “We will scrutinise whatever remarks residents will make. The observations submitted so far are already being
scrutinised.” Besides demanding the extension during the meeting called by Shewale, members of citizens groups and NGOs like Yuva, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), AGNI and others
also pointed out flaws in the survey. Activist Rishi Aggarwal welcomed the extension and said, “People coming forward and pointing out mistakes in the report result in a better report. We
expect the corporation to put up the remarks of citizens online.”
