According to AEC, the builder started receiving the calls from an international number in June. The Anti-Extortion Cell (AEC) of Mumbai police has arrested a 42-year-old butcher from Malad
for allegedly making extortion calls to a city-based builder. The accused, Ahmad Adam Shaikh, and his accomplice, allegedly told the builder that they worked for gangster Chhota Shakeel, and
demanded Rs 5 crore. According to AEC, the builder started receiving the calls from an international number in June. The caller identified himself as Wasim, an aide to Shakeel. "After
repeated calls, the scared builder approached the Dindoshi police station and AEC, and registered a complaint, following which we took up the case," said Additional Commissioner of
Police (Crime) K M M Prasanna. He added, "We visited the office of the builder. The suspects from the area were scrutinised, and following a tip off, Shaikh was picked up." During
the interrogation, Shaikh broke down and confessed to the crime. He told the police that his associate, who is unemployed, collected all the information about the builder and hatched the
extortion plan. "We have arrested one accused. The other is identified and will be arrested soon," said Vinayak Vats, Senior Inspector, AEC.
