IMPHAL: Two more persons from Thoubal district in Manipur tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday evening, taking the total cases in a day to three in the state. With this, Manipur has

recorded a total of at least 29 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 25 active cases. The two male patients, aged 19 and 26 years, were tested at Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratories

(VRDL) on Saturday and admitted to COVID-19 Care Centre at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Hospital in Imphal after they were found to be positive for COVID-19, said additional

director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang. According to Dr Mangang, the latest two COVID-19 positive patients had returned from Delhi by road but different buses. All necessary control measures

like containment and contact tracing of co-passengers have been initiated to avoid further transmission of the coronavirus in Manipur, he said. Earlier in the day, a 26-year-old man from

71-year-old woman and her 48-year-old son, who returned from Mumbai to Tengnoupal district and tested positive for COVID-19 on May 13, have been discharged from RIMS Hospital after they were

declared free from the virus. Now, the total number of recovered cases has risen to four. The current recovery rate is 13.79%, said officials. With the rapid spurt of the virus in just few

days, mostly occurring in the group of stranded people who had returned home from various cities, the state government has tightened up various measures, including quarantine center

coming from other parts of the country and abroad must adhere to the 14 days’ quarantine period, failing which they can land up in jail. Those returnees violating the quarantine protocol

will be prosecuted under the National Disaster Management Act, 2005, Singh said. So far, at least nine special trains have arrived at Jiribam in Manipur to ferry the stranded residents from

metro cities amid lockdown. Since its initial evacuation drive by the state government, over 12,000 stranded Manipur natives have arrived in the state either by the special trains or hired
