Olympic medallist Maddie Hinch and dedicated volunteer Sara Walker have been named in the 2024 New Year Honours List. After receiving an MBE on the back of the gold medal success at the Rio
2016 Olympic Games, Hinch has now been given an OBE which recognises her services to hockey throughout her career. The former British and English goalkeeper retired from competing earlier in
2023 after securing gold at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games to add to her Olympic gold. Walker was named as a Medallist of the Order of the
British Empire. She was recognised for the countless hours she has dedicated to both Teddington Hockey Club and the community in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. She was also
recognised for services to hockey and masters hockey. England Hockey CEO, Nick Pink, said: “I want to congratulate both Maddie and Sara for being named on the New Year Honours List. Maddie
enjoyed huge success at the highest level while Sara is a shining example of the people who volunteer and keep hockey clubs going up and down the country. “They have made huge impacts to
hockey and it’s fantastic to see them recognised in this way.”
