As part of the #PickUpAStick campaign celebrating the Commonwealth Games this July, Leicester City Hockey Club are running a series of camps for local children using the Holiday Activities
and Food programme designed to increase social interaction, nutrition and physical health for children over the summer holidays. The camps are comprised of multi-sports including hockey to
encourage children to try to create a lifelong love for sports. These camps are supported by the government in extending free school meal provision over the summer whilst parents are at
work. Sarah Treanor of Leicester City Hockey Club says “We are delighted to engage with the children in the local area to make St Margaret’s Pastures a local community destination for sport
and healthy living in the city. It's been very important to have this supported by the Department for Education and Leicester City Council and for us to support this to make it as
affordable as possible and for parents to be confident that their children are in a safe environment. I know we are a hockey club but the children can learn all about a wide variety of
sports and take part in arts and crafts as well as learning all about healthy eating.”
