HERE__._ Reigning men’s Premier Division champions Surbiton delivered a statement of intent as they marked the return of the Super 6s Championships with two emphatic wins. Following the

cancellation of last year’s indoor season, the 2020 title winners showed they meant business with a clinical attacking display at Repton School to kick off their defence in style. Arjan

Drayton-Chana bagged five goals as they beat Reading 12-1 in their opening contest, with James Gall and Jamie Golden also scoring braces. That was followed by an equally impressive 10-1

success over Holcombe, with Golden adding two more to his personal tally as Zach Wallace also contributed a hat-trick. Earlier in the day, the Super 6s curtain-raiser saw Repton’s men hit

the ground running on their Premier Division debut with a comfortable 5-1 triumph over Brooklands MU. The opening weekend hosts have enjoyed a meteoric rise since the club was formed in 2016

and raced into a 4-0 lead thanks to braces from James Sookias and George Fletcher. David Flanagan managed to pull one goal back for Brooklands in the 38th minute, only for Repton to respond

immediately with a penalty corner from Simon Claris to seal the win. Repton were unable to make it back-to-back wins, however, going down 5-4 to Sevenoaks in their second game of the day

despite taking a 2-0 lead inside the opening five minutes. Sookias and Fletcher were both on target again but Sevenoaks recovered with a David Smith hat-trick and further goals from Ben

Selby and Nathan Palmer to secure victory. Elsewhere, Hampstead & Westminster and Wimbledon played out a back-and-forth thriller that ended with the former eventually prevailing 8-6

after the lead changed multiple times. Hampstead & Westminster opened the scoring through James Sutcliffe before two quickfire goals from Ed Horler saw Wimbledon take to the front for

the first time. Teague Marcano levelled the scores before Horler completed his hat-trick in the 23rd minute, but Wimbledon’s lead was gone in the blink of an eye as Kei Kaeppeler replied

quickly. James Oates then put Hampstead & Westminster back ahead before the two sides continued to trade goals, with Liam Ansell levelling the game up and Rupert Shipperley striking

back. Further goals from Oates, Marcano and Will Calnan ultimately proved enough for Hampstead & Westminster to get over the line, despite Duncan Scott and Horler responding for

Wimbledon. Hampstead & Westminster then made it two from two with a 7-2 victory over Brooklands MU, with Marcano scoring four as Shipperley, Kaeppeler and Marc Edwards also found the

target. Meanwhile, Wimbledon were able to bounce back from their opening defeat with a 7-1 win over Reading, with Benjamin Francis’ hat-trick and Horler’s brace the main contributors. East

Grinstead were able to get up and running at the first time of asking, beating Holcombe 7-6 in another end-to-end contest as Ross Stott and Jarryd Jones both scoring twice. And they joined

Surbiton and Hampstead & Westminster on six points at the summit with a 3-2 win over Sevenoaks, with Niall Stott scoring the match-winner in the 40th minute. In the women’s Premier

Division, reigning 2020 champions Buckingham made a dream start to their title defence with back-to-back wins over Wimbledon and Holcombe at Whitgift School. A double from Alex Naughalty got

the ball rolling in a 4-2 win over Wimbledon, with Abbie Brant and Rebecca van Arrowsmith also on the scoresheet for Buckingham. And they were even more ruthless against Holcombe, running

out 6-2 winners as braces from Van Arrowsmith and Maddy Newlyn along with one each for Lottie Porter and Emma O’Nien got the job done. Premier Division debutants Repton matched the champions

by winning their opening two games, seeing off Sutton Coldfield 6-3 before closing out the day with an 8-2 win against Leicester. Beth Peers’ hat-trick for Sutton Coldfield proved to be in

vain as Svea Boker scored a brace in addition to goals from Sally Walton, Hannah Davey, Eleanor Watton and Claudia Swain. Repton then put Leicester to the sword, with Walton scoring four as

Swain opened and finished the scoring to put Repton top of the standings ahead of Buckingham on goal difference. East Grinstead also started their campaign unbeaten, following up a 0-0 draw

in their Super 6s opener against Slough with a much more convincing 6-2 win over Leicester. There were six different scorers against Leicester, with Chloe Brown, Joanna Davis, Amy Thompson,

Courtney Hansford, Eliza Wheeler and Harriet Mitchell all on target. Like their opening opponents, Slough responded to their goalless first match with a 3-1 victory over Bowdon Hightown with

two Imogen Brown efforts and one from Juliette Inverdale. Bowdon Hightown had started their campaign with a 6-1 victory over Holcombe, with Michelle Liptrot and Holly Hunt scoring two

apiece while Emma Bandurak claimed a consolation. Sutton Coldfield also got off the mark in their second game of the day, beating Wimbledon 7-2 after recovering from falling 2-0 behind

thanks to Vicky Woolford’s hat-trick.  The top four teams from the men’s and women’s Premier Divisions following the weekends of 8-9 and 15-16 of January will qualify for the Super 6s
