announced that the 2000 Sydney Olympic venue of Penrith will be the program’s base.
The news follows the appointments of two highly-credentialled Tasmanian rowing coaches to senior national positions, Huon’s John Driessen and Launceston’s John Keogh.
Keogh will be based at Penrith along with senior coaches Ellen Randell and Tom Westgarth and up to 25 elite rowers.
Launceston was one of a number of proposals received by Rowing Australia from its member states.
The new women’s national centre will be on the banks of the Nepean River with easy access to the Sydney International Regatta Centre as well as a new facility that RA said “will make it the
best of its kind in Australia”.
The goal is to have the facility ready for athletes by April 2017, subject to council planning approval.
