crews extinguished several smouldering bin fires in the Launceston area.

The fires were extinguished without incident.

Tasmania Police were also called to the fires and were investigating the incidents.

City of Launceston Council general manager Michael Stretton said nine customers have made contact with the council’s customer service centre to arrange a new bin.

"We aren't charging people for replacements,” he said.

contamination The new rubbish bins were expected to take about 10 days to arrive.

"In the meantime, we'd ask anyone affected to store their rubbish until their new bin arrives, or perhaps take advantage of one of the free tip vouchers issued to residences to dispose of

any unwanted waste."

Suburbs hit by the bin vandals include Riverside, Trevallyn, Kings Meadows, Prospect and Waverley.

Anyone with information regarding the damaged bins should call the Launceston Police Station on 6777 3945, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
