from Australians' generosity of time, donations, services and the clothes of their own back for someone less fortunate.

Tasmanians are often the first to offer help to other states and territories when disaster hits. We are forever thankful volunteer firefighters - like the 41 that departed yesterday -

selflessly head to the frontier without hesitation.

However, many people don't possess those cherished skills, but want to help. Unsurprisingly, a number of grassroots fundraising initiatives from Tasmanians are starting to come to the fore.

Led by Launceston deputy mayor Danny Gibson, businesses and community groups have joined forces to organise a Launceston Responds: Helping our Mates fundraiser on January 29 at Tailrace

Centre - similar to the event that raised more than $100,000 in the wake of the 2013 Dunalley blaze.

The Hadspen and Westbury cricket clubs have also teamed up with Meander Valley and St Pats football clubs to host a T20 cricket match, auction and concert night at Hadspen Oval on Friday

night to support the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal.

Meanwhile, nine-year-old Oliver Wallace visiting his grandparents from Victoria spent Monday washing cars at Beauty Point for the cause.

These are just some of the examples of the goodwill in action and to come from dedicated volunteers, visionary leaders and the support of the community.

To top this, The Examiner has raised more than $80,000 from its 111th Empty Stocking Appeal for charity partners Salvation Army, Launceston Benevolent Society, City Mission and the St

Vincent de Paul Society.

Combined with the $72,000 from the Winter Relief Appeal in 2019, Northern Tasmanians raised more than $152,000 for fellow community members in desperate need.

A tremendous outcome that demonstrates true spirit and good will.
