Rocherlea last night, facing charges of breaching a police family violence order, evading police, refusing a breath analysis, reckless driving, and being unlicenced.

But when police attempted to arrest him, he became abusive and resisted them.

That was when he claimed to be infected.

with multiple offences, including resisting police, and failing to comply with the direction from the Director of Public Health.

He was expected to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court today.

Launceston CIB Detective Inspector Craig Fox said anyone claiming to be infected with COVID-19 would be "taken very seriously", and police would continue to enforce the government's

restrictions.

"Police would like to remind the public to only be absent from the primary residences with a lawful reason," he said.

Failing to follow the rules will result in fines of up to $16,800 or up to six months behind bars.
