Trapped M62 drivers near Huddersfield were left hungry and tired following a 10-hour wait to be released following a major crash and lorry fire. Drivers heading home on the Thursday evening
commute were left trapped on the eastbound carriageway from junction 22 A627 near Rishworth Moor in Denshaw, to junction 23, New Hey Road in Huddersfield. The crash involved multiple
vehicles before a lorry fire reported at 4.30pm, police say. Traffic officers were investigating up until midnight after an air ambulance was called to the scene. Traffic was slowly released
into the early hours of the morning and the road cleared around 2.20am. Motorists were still venting their frustration on social media. Some at the front of the queuing traffic on the M62
Eastbound have been stuck there for over five hours tonight, while cars behind them are being turned around and redirected. Driver Danny said on X: "Hurry up please lads I’m
starving" after waiting for nearly six hours, while another vented: "Please please please give us some news. We are near the front. No one is moving or has moved or is being taken
off the motorway." Just after 10pm, stranded motorist Chris said: "So I have been stuck in my car on the M62 for *4hrs* now. Just documenting this in case the weather turns and I
freeze to death. PS, can we have better trains from Hull to Liverpool please, as I would take trains if quicker." National Highways has stated: "The M62 remains closed eastbound
between J22 (Denshaw) and J24 (Huddersfield) following to a serious collision. Traffic caught within the closure continues to be released. Thank you for your patience." GET BREAKING
