Tesco is stepping up its battle against food waste by offering discounts on more products in the evenings. Sharp-eyed shoppers have noticed notices in multiple stores announcing that loose
bakery items now come with a 50 percent price reduction after the usual 7pm markdown time. An image captured a 50 percent off label sitting beside an array of croissants and chocolate
twists, but specifies 'excludes bread and gingerbread. '. Highlighting the savings, the popular social media page, Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, shared the news with its
audience of 64,000 fans, posting, "Spotted this in my local Tesco Express - not sure if all stores, but maybe useful to someone." Among the freshly baked daily offerings at Tesco
are treats including pecan plaits, cheese croissants, and swirls filled with cinnamon or raisins, reports the Manchester Evening News. A Tesco representative told the Express that while
discounts usually take effect near 7pm, the timing might differ from shop to shop, remarking: "Markdowns on fresh products continue to be popular and help to prevent good food from
going to waste." In a move to cut down on waste and address hunger, Tesco introduced another pilot scheme in March allowing customers to scan yellow sticker items for free at select
Tesco Express stores after 9.30pm. The specific locations of the participating Tesco Express branches remain confidential. Under the new trial, food is still provided to charities, while
store staff will be given priority for reduced yellow sticker goods earlier on the same day. Any remaining food approaching closing time, identified with yellow stickers, will be up for
grabs by customers at no cost during the trial period. A representative for Tesco remarked: "We are constantly looking for innovative new ways to reduce food waste. In all our stores we
offer unsold surplus food to charities and community groups, donating millions of meals each month. "This trial, in a small number of our Express stores, will allow customers to take
any remaining yellow stickered items for free at the end of the day, after they have first been offered to charities and colleagues." _GET ALL THE LATEST AND BREAKING NEWS IN YORKSHIRE
