Drivers were left in queues of traffic for up to ten hours on Thursday night following a collision which left a man in a critical condition. The crash took place on the M62 eastbound just

before Junction 23, near Huddersfield, at around 5.41pm on Thursday, May 29. Huge queues were seen building up as the road was completely shut until 2.30am on Friday morning - forcing

drivers to sleep in their cars. The collision involved eight vehicles, including one motorbike ridden by a 51-year-old man. This man was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries,

and he is currently in a critical condition. After the crash, the M62 eastbound was closed until the early hours of this morning. An investigation into the crash has been taking place, and

now officers at the Roads Policing Unit are looking to speak to any witnesses, or anyone who has footage. One driver, who left Southport just after 4pm, said she did not arrive in Brighouse

until 3am the following morning. She said: "I saw on my satnav that there was bad traffic so was going to turn off at the Huddersfield junction but then just came to a stop about a mile

away from it. "I thought we'd get moving as I'd not been in a bad queue in my whole time of driving - but we just never did. I didn't have any food or water with me.

People were getting out of their cars and looking around and others were using the hard shoulder to turn back on themselves and go backwards but then were having to come back. "Highways

England put online quite early on that traffic was being released and I was quite near the front, but it didn't happen for hours after they said that - no one was moving. I could see

people end up laying their seats down and going to sleep. "Eventually, a man in high-vis knocked on my window to say I could turn around and follow the rest of the traffic through

Saddleworth. My car wouldn't start at first as I'd had the battery on to charge my phone but it eventually got going and I got home at 3am." A spokesperson for West Yorkshire

Police said on Friday: "Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious injury collision on the M62 motorway yesterday (Thursday). "It happened on the eastbound carriageway,

just before the Junction 23 exit slip road at about 5.41pm and involved eight vehicles. A motorbike rider was taken to hospital with what are described as life-threatening injuries. The

51-year-old man is said to be in a critical condition today (Friday). "Enquiries into the collision, which led to the carriageway being closed until around 1am today, are continuing and

officers at the Roads Policing Unit are keen to speak with anyone who witnessed it, or anyone who may have footage to assist this investigation." If you have any information, you can
