Chocolate-lovers are being transported almost 5,000 miles from the rum shacks of the Caribbean to the heart of medieval Yorkshire. Usually associated with tropical paradises like Barbados
and Jamaica, the story of rum is now being told on distant shores – and far more temporal climes – at York’s Chocolate Story. Following on from their gin and chocolate tours, which launched
last year, the new rum and chocolate tours aim to bring together the two unforgettable flavours which share their origins in some of the warmest and most idyllic parts of the world. The new
tours, which will run fortnightly, are a collaboration between the popular King’s Square attraction and Hooting Owl Distillery – the only distillery located within York’s historic walls. You
can take a sensory journey as you taste five carefully chosen premium rums, each paired with delicious chocolates. Expert tour guides will share the stories behind both rum and chocolate -
their origins, history, and what makes each one special. From the early days of chocolate making in York to rum’s rise as a beloved spirit, guests will discover fascinating insights and
learn how to truly appreciate these rich flavours. To conclude the tour, guests will get hands on as they pipe their own chocolate bars before witnessing a chocolatier demonstration showing
how to craft rum-filled chocolates – before giving them a try for themselves. Guests will be able to sample five rums during their tour. They are: MOCHA RUM - An appealingly amber coloured
dark rum despite actually being a flavoured white rum. It comes complete with warming flavour notes of chocolate, coffee and toasted marshmallow. COCONUT RUM - A tropical vibrancy with a
spicy coconut finish. This elegantly spiced cane rum is extremely smooth and velvety, featuring coconut, all spice berries and vanilla tones. TIPSY TOAD DARK RUM - Many of today’s rums are
bold, spicy and dark - exactly what you need as a base for rum cocktails or mixed drinks. Tipsy Toad utilises hawthorn berries, sarsaparilla and tonka beans. HOOTING OWL DARK RUM - Fine
Guyanese rum with a Hooting Owl twist – a secret recipe of botanicals, steeped and redistilled to create a unique, smooth, artisan dark rum. A MYSTERY RUM - Enjoy a surprise rum as the final
pairing. Stuart Wood, general manager at York’s Chocolate Story, said: “We’re always looking out for new ways to tell the stories of York’s confectionery heritage and to bring one-of-a-kind
experiences to our guests. With chocolate and rum having so much in common from their shared flavour profiles to their cultural roots - growing beside each other in equatorial regions and
in the Caribbean - this pairing feels like a natural next step for our offerings. “Since launching our gin and chocolate tours last year, we’ve seen firsthand the passion people have for
food origin stories and the incredible pairings they can create with our luxurious chocolate.” York’s Chocolate Story’s rum and chocolate tours will run every other Thursday evening from
