Martin Roberts, 57, opened up on visiting a particularly run-down house with a buyer which, he claims, smelt of “faeces” and prompted the cast and crew to feel immediately unwell. The DIY

guru explained that houses with the worst smell tend to be those where animals have been kept, as urine and other toilet waste can “seep through the floorboards”. Martin said: “Somebody did

buy one of these places, and I’m going, ‘Do you know how much effort it’s going to take, to get rid of this smell’.   “I mean we’re almost all vomiting, so bad (was the stench) that I think

someone had Vicks chest rub that we were just putting under our noses like they do in morgues! It was just so utterly vile.  “And they said, 'Well we will just scrub it with

bleach,' I’m going, 'No, that ain't going to work mate, this has permeated into the floorboards’.” On Martin’s return to the property, the owner had to completely replace the

floorboards in order to get rid of the odour that would not disappear as suggested with bleach. READ MORE:CHARLEY WEBB: 'NEARLY CRIED' EMMERDALE'S DEBBIE DINGLE CLOSE TO TEARS

The TV host continued: “We have been in places where poo is smeared up the wall.  “They don’t pay me enough to do this,” he added. It comes as Martin revealed it had been “really tough” to

film without having a director on set and adhering to imposed social distancing measures. Martin revealed: “Instead of having a cameraman, a director, a runner, and a second cameraman…

they’re going to have one cameraman and the presenter.  “There are lots and lots of challenges to make the show. But, rest assured, Homes Under The Hammer is going to carry on," he

added. The DIY expert also noted that it would take a lot longer this time around to make the same amount of shows and this has left the crew in despair. He noted: “It’s going to take us a

lot longer to make the same amount of shows, the team has been pulling their hair out basically. It’s been really tough." In his free time, Martin has been keeping busy filming for his

YouTube channel which includes DIY tutorials for kids. Martin divulged: “I’ve never filmed so much in my life! But I’m really proud of what we created. “It’s a slow burner (YouTube) some of

it gets lots of views, and over time it's built up to some nice numbers.  “One thing I have learnt doing YouTube is that it’s just a slog. Unless you get a major boost it's just,

adding a few hundred people there, a few hundred people here.” HOMES UNDER THE HAMMER AIRS WEEKDAYS ON BBC ONE AT 10.45AM.
