Tony Blackburn has discussed Sam Thompson, 2023’s winner of ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk. The BBC Radio 2 DJ, who won the
first-ever season of the show back in 2002, also spoke about the Made In Chelsea star’s TV future. In a wider chat about keeping his home gas-safe with Gas Safe Register, Sounds of the 60s
host Tony, 81, reflected on Sam’s jungle stint. Asked if he thought Sam had the potential to end up presenting on a show like ITV’s This Morning, Tony confirmed: “I suppose so, I don’t know
you know. “He seemed very hyper,” Tony chuckled, before adding: “If ITV want to take him up and give him a show, good luck to him.” Speaking about the 2023 series, he expressed: “I thought
the series was okay. “You know, it's very good, but I don't like the involvement with the animals very much. “Because I'm a vegetarian and an animal lover, I don't like
that so much. But the rest of it is really good!” Later, he went on to complement presenting duo Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, adding: “It's a good show and Ant and Dec are
very good on it. “I don't know if [Sam] will get a TV show… I'm not sure. But I do wish him good luck!” Since his successful time in the jungle, Sam has gone on to appear on This
Morning a handful of times, sometimes acting as an interviewer and roving reporter. Speaking about his career goals in an Express.co.uk ahead of his jungle appearance, Sam admitted he would
love to do a presenting team-up with his Strictly star girlfriend Zara McDermott. He said: “I have absolutely no desire to not work with Zara! I love working with her, it is so fun.
“We've never really had much of an opportunity, to be honest. It's just never been the right time.” He added: “It’s all about trying to find the time, but one day I would
absolutely love to. “If I'm honest with you, I'd love to do a sort of hosting thing with her - like an Eamonn and Ruth! That would be fun.” Elsewhere in the interview, Tony spoke
about the importance of grandparents getting clued up on gas safety, as nine in ten (86%) UK grandparents provide some form of childcare for their grandchildren during the week, according to
research from Gas Safe Register. The research goes on to reveal that, despite nearly half (46%) of grandparents claiming to be more clued up on home safety measures than their adult
children, only 16% were able to correctly identify all the seven crucial warning signs that indicate gas appliances in the home could be faulty or unsafe. _Radio veteran Tony Blackburn OBE
has teamed up with Gas Safe Register to help the nation’s grandparents (and entire families) get clued up on how to be gas-safe in the home this winter. _ _To find a local Gas Safe
