Game of Thrones came to a rather divisive ending on HBO earlier this year. After seven triumphant seasons, the final one was the most controversial, but not for nudity or killing off major

characters. Well, OK, it did anger many fans with the way it killed leading players but that was part of a larger issue many had with the way important storylines and apay offs were handled.

Brienne of Tarth, however, had a fairly great ending. She survived, she was appointed to the Kingsguard and she had a moment of real passion with poor old Jaime. So, what did HBO mess up

this time? The industry has been buzzing with the news that three Game of Thrones actors took the unusual step to nominate themselves for Emmy's after HBO did not. Incredibly, all three

then secured places on the final line-up. Gwendoline Christie was one of them, putting herself forward for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and celebrating jubilantly on social

media and thanking the universe. Can you think of anything more fantastically Brienne than that? The Lady of Tarth would be very proud. This throws up two major questions. Firstly, why

wasn't she nominated in the first place? Her work has been extraordinary in the show. As has the incredible Alfie Allen as Theon Greyjoy. His journey, and those terrible Reek years, has

been sensationally acted out on screen. He is long-overdue recognition. He also secured a Best Supporting Actor self-nomination, alongside the powerful Carice van Houten as Melisandre for

Best Guest Actress. HBO clearly decided who they thought was most likely to secure places on the ballot and put forward Lena Heady (Cersei Lannister), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), and Maisie

Williams (Arya Stark) as Best Supporting Actress. Heady has been sensational throughout the run, but had remarkably little screen time in the final season. The second issue will be the

concern having four out of six actors from the same show in the same category with split the vote. The ladies will face off against Fiona Shaw for Killing Eve and Julia Garner in Ozark.

Alfie Allen joins Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Peter Dinklage in Best Supporting Actor. Dinklage has a great awards run so far, but perhaps it is time someone else shared the glory? Whatever

issues fans may have with the plotting and inconsistencies of the final season, the level of the performances has been undeniably wonderful and these stars fully deserve all this
