It appears Sony is preparing plenty of new exclusive games for their next console, the PlayStation 5. An official name has yet to be revealed for the new gaming machine, but it’s worth
betting that the tech giant will continue to keep up the numerical tradition. Fans are hoping to hear more about the PS5 release date soon, and while we’re waiting on that, there’s been some
interesting games news. Not attached to the PS4 or PS4 Pro, it appears a new Gran Turismo game is taking shape. Hints have been slowly dropping about a possible a new instalment in the
franchise coming to the PS5. And more appears to have surfaced this week. News on the engine being used for the development of Gran Turismo was shared during a recent event in Japan. This
apparently includes Polyphony Digital working on their own real-time ray tracing tech. For those that don’t know, ray tracing is an emerging tech being used on high-end PCs to offer more
realistic effects, such as with reflections. And during the SIGGRAPH Asia 2018 event, Polyphony Digital is reported to have revealed their own in-house version. The studio is “still
exploring the possibilities” according to a recent video posted online from the event, but it appears that something big is in the works. The series creator Kazunori Yamauchi recently talked
up how Gran Turismo could be changing in the future. According to a recent interview, it takes months to create a single car, with the team currently working on over-specced designs for the
PS4 Pro. This is reportedly to help with “future versions of the console” rather than the PS4 and PS4 Pro. It’s unclear if any of this new tech will be used for Sony PlayStation’s next
console, or if it merely for research purposes. What it does make clear is that a new Gran Turismo game is in the works and is almost certainly being launched on PS5. Fans are still waiting
for a solid announcement regarding the PS5 release date, although it appears Sony is priming for some big news in 2019. While only reports so far, both media and online sources suggest that
2020 will be the year the new console arrives. And if Sony is aiming for 2020, you can expect Microsoft is looking at that too. PlayStation won’t be at E3 this year but will instead be
hosting their own PS4 events. So there is scope for the company to make a big announcement at any time. If E3 2018 wasn’t the right timing for Sony, we could see several events spread across
the year. covering big PlayStation news. However, it should also be noted that the company will be keeping a close eye on PS4 sales as well. The latest news has been very positive for Sony
PlayStation, with reports coming in this week that 90 million PS4 units have been sold. That’s a brilliant amount for the tech giant, who will be eyeing further gains in 2019. But revealing
a big new console during the year is a sure recipe to see declines in sales of your current model. So it will be interesting to see just how the PS5 announcement will be played. News of the
new 90 million units sold has not been confirmed by Sony yet; however, the final months of 2018 have been reported as very good for all the big three console makers. It’s been reported that
1.3 million PS4s, Xbox Ones and Switchs were sold during November, meaning almost 4 million in total sales for the one month. So there’s a good chance that the PS4 and PS4 Pro hit another
impressive milestone just before the start of 2019.
