Peace lilies gather a lot of attention, particularly when they are in bloom. However, many struggle to achieve this. These houseplants are relatively low maintenance but they do require some

TLC from time to time. According to the indoor plant specialists at The Healthy Houseplant, the “best way to encourage a peace lily to flower” is to provide a good amount of bright,

indirect sunlight. One of the most common misconceptions about peace lilies is that they hardly need any sun to grow.  This would be ok if households want a compact foliage plant, according

to the pros, but for those who have a desire for flowers, they will have to give their peace lily some sun. However, it is worth noting that their glossy leaves would appear lighter than

usual if they do not get enough sunlight. If this plant is being kept in a shadowy corner or by a window that’s overshadowed by the building next door, the experts suggest moving it to the

east-facing window in the next room over as that would be the best spot for the right amount of light.  They said: “Look for a place that gets six to eight hours of fairly bright light per

day during the growing season.” While sunlight is important, don’t leave your peace lily in direct sunlight for “more than two hours per day” as this is a common mistake many tend to make.

If the spot you’re looking at gets too many harsh rays – this is common with windows facing south or west – households can soften the light by hanging some thin curtains.  Avoid placing your

plant within five feet of an unfiltered southern exposure. Households can check the light quality by looking at the shadow their hand casts when they hold it up.  Direct light makes dark

shadows with sharp edges whereas indirect light gives them some fuzzy edges.  If the shadows are extremely faint or have no clear shape, “the light is probably too dim” for your peace lily

to flower.
