Each night, a segment called The Unadoptables will feature pets that have been stuck in shelter for some time – for example, big, scary-looking English mastiffs that are actually very
friendly dogs if engaged with. Equally, the show will bust myths about certain animals and discourage others from choosing pets as fashion accessories. “The number of owls and snakes taken
on as pets went through the roof on the back of Harry Potter, but they’re often unsuitable,” says Dermot Caulfield, series producer.“ And huskies have become one of the most popular breeds
because of Game Of Thrones,” he continues, referring to the dogs, close relatives of the Siberian husky, that portray the Stark family’s “direwolves”. “But they are incredibly tricksy –
they’re pack dogs, working dogs and natural escapologists, so potential owners really need to understand that they are wonderful pets if you get to know them and put the work in, but they’re
not for the faint-hearted.” Steve will head to Bath Cat and Dogs Home to explain the health and emotional benefits of having your cat spayed, and we’re promised footage of Noel on the
floor with rabbits jumping all over him, as he explains what bunnies need to be happy pets. It’s set to be an entertaining, as well as a worthy TV event, says Steve. “I love animals, I love
live TV and I love The Supervet,” he smiles. “This is going to be a great show with a great purpose. I can’t wait.” _ANIMAL RESCUE LIVE: SUPERVET SPECIAL, MONDAY, 8PM, CHANNEL 4_
