Spiders are feared by thousands of people across the UK, despite the bugs being harmless. In fact, there are a whopping 12,000 searches each month on how to get rid of spiders in a safe way.

Founder of luxury bedroom brand French Bedroom, Georgia Metcalfe, has shared a simple £2 hack for keeping spiders out of bedrooms which she “swears by”. The product – peppermint oil, can be

bought for as little as £2 online and in other outlets. Amazon sells the product for just £1.98, and Waitrose sells Tisserand peppermint essential oil for £3.50. Georgia explained:

“Worrying about spiders in our room can have a negative effect on our mindset, in turn reducing sleep and increasing stress levels. “Following this tip will retain your bedroom as a peaceful

sanctuary and prevent sleepless nights. “I swear by these tips and recommend to anyone I know who has spider troubles. “As they smell with their legs, pungent scents, essential oils, and

even lemon peel are great ways to keep spiders at bay for only a few pounds and without using chemicals.” READ MORE: Four ‘effective’ methods to deter mice from your home ‘quickly’ The

reason the strong scent of peppermint oil repels spiders is because they’re sensitive to strong smells. Combining the oil with water, adding it to a diffuser or dropping the scent into

laundry are all recommended techniques that won’t harm the spider. Georgia explains further: COMBINE WITH WATER TO MAKE A SPRAY Creating a spray mixture using a few drops of peppermint oil

with water and a dash of white vinegar should help keep the critters at bay. The solution can be sprayed lightly onto the inside of curtains and corners of carpets but caution should be

taken when it comes to spraying on furniture as it could cause damage. RUB IT INTO DRAWERS To keep spiders out of drawers, rub two to three droplets of the oil onto the raw side of the wood,

preferably in a back corner. This will keep the spiders out while also making clothes smell fresh.
